Saving GIFs from the web, the easy way
Right-clicking a GIF often saves a WebP, an MP4 or a tiny preview instead of the real file. Many GIF sites wrap the animation in a player, and the actual file is buried in the page code.
The downloader follows the link, finds the GIF file and hands it to you with its real size and dimensions.
Tips for each site
- Tenor and Giphy: use the share or link button, not the address of the search page.
- Reddit: paste the post link or the i.redd.it image address.
- Imgur: links ending in .gifv are videos. Change the ending to .gif to get the GIF version.
- Anywhere else: right-click the GIF, choose "Copy image address" and paste it here.
After downloading
GIFs from hosting sites are often larger than they need to be. Run them through Compress GIF, or use Compress GIF to Size to fit a chat app's limit.
To grab just a still image, export frames with Split GIF. To see how the GIF is put together, open it in the GIF Metadata Viewer.
Respect the creator
GIFs are someone's work. Download for personal use, credit creators when you share, and ask before using a GIF in anything commercial.

Which sites does the downloader support?
Any direct link ending in .gif, plus share links from Tenor, Giphy, Reddit, Imgur and X (Twitter) where the page exposes the GIF file. If a link fails, open the GIF in your browser, right-click it, choose "Copy image address" and paste that instead.
Why did I get an MP4 or a WebP instead of a GIF?
Some sites only store video versions of "GIFs". X, for example, converts uploaded GIFs to MP4. When no GIF version exists, the downloader can only save what the site provides.
Can I download many GIFs at once?
Yes. Click "paste a batch list", add up to 20 links, one per line, and download them together as a ZIP.
Is it legal to download GIFs?
Saving a GIF for personal use is generally fine, but the GIF still belongs to its creator. Check the source's terms and get permission before reusing GIFs commercially.
Is there a size limit?
Each GIF can be up to 30 MB. Larger files are stopped during the download to keep the service fast for everyone.
